Is it wise to commit to long term consulting contracts?

Who doesn’t want a quick win?

When I meet a new client, my most important concerns are to understand their needs and their willigness to invest in their own business. Hence… we start with Blueprint package.

We need to go through a discovery phase together, and assess our cooperation. During discovery phase, my job is to identify the pain points that my client already sees, as well as recognize and unearth the pain points that my client does not accept yet.

Should I deliver an assessment report, a plan to follow and move on? It may work for a while or during the time I am present and interfere in daily work.

The Blueprint package fixes small things and prepare the organization for big things to come

First things first, I have to observe and understand the daily work, talk to key stakeholders and finally create the project roadmap, that will eliminate some of the urgent problems. This is the moment when I agree, together with my client, the priorities, the timelines, the communication process, the way we measure success and so on.

At this point, usually we find ourselves at a crossroad: Do we want to fix the pain points at the surface and ensure viable back-up plans, or we decide to address everything that keeps us from growing?

Even if it looks and feels like an experiment, it’s better to take a risk, than remaining stagnant.

The investment could be for example, redesigning the e-shop, installing an ERP, outsourcing some tasks to resourceful external partners.

At the end, the client will know the insights of my assessment and will have a roadmap to address the concerns.

Whether they will proceed with a more committing scheme of cooperation is entirely up to client’s decision.
